Paratextual Intention is an academic concept that denotes the authorial purpose encoded in supplementary textual elements surrounding a primary text—such as titles, abstracts, prefaces, footnotes, and appendices—which serve to guide, frame, or constrain the reader’s interpretation of the core contribution.
