Ototoxicity

Ototoxicity is the property or capacity of chemical substances to cause functional or morphological damage to the auditory or vestibular systems, located within the inner ear. As a research concept, it encompasses the investigation of the mechanisms underlying this damage, the identification and characterization of causative agents (ototoxins), the assessment of resulting impairments (e.g., hearing loss, vertigo), and the development of strategies for prevention, monitoring, and treatment.
