Oscillatory Extensional Flow is a rheological deformation mode in which a material is subjected to a time-varying, sinusoidal strain or stress along an axis of extension, distinguishing it from steady extensional or oscillatory shear flows by its periodic elongation and contraction in the absence of net shear.
