Old Spanish is a historical stage of the Spanish language, classified as a Romance language variety, that was spoken in the Iberian Peninsula from the 9th to the 15th century and distinguished from other Romance varieties by its characteristic phonological, morphosyntactic, and lexical developments arising from Latin and preceding the standardization of Early Modern Spanish.
