Mutex is a synchronization primitive in thread management that belongs to the class of locking mechanisms, distinguished by its property of ensuring exclusive access to a shared resource by allowing only one thread to acquire the lock at a time, thereby preventing race conditions in embedded C programming and interprocess communication contexts.
