Microcracking Toughening

Microcracking Toughening is a ceramic toughening mechanism in which the propagation of a primary crack is impeded by the formation of localized microcracks in the material's wake, thereby dissipating fracture energy through the creation of additional crack surfaces and reducing the stress intensity at the main crack tip.
