Membrane Energization
Membrane Energization is a bioenergetic process in which the transmembrane electrochemical gradient of ions, primarily protons, is established and maintained across a biological membrane through the action of respiratory or photosynthetic electron transport chains, thereby storing energy in the form of a proton motive force that drives cellular work such as ATP synthesis and solute transport.
