Mehler Reaction

The Mehler Reaction is a biochemical process in which molecular oxygen acts as an electron acceptor in photosystem I, leading to the reduction of oxygen to superoxide and subsequent reactive oxygen species formation, thereby representing a non-photochemical quenching mechanism that dissipates excess reducing power in oxygenic photosynthesis.
