Medieval Japan

Medieval Japan is a historical periodization denoting the era in Japanese history from the late 12th century to the mid-16th century, characterized by the rise of the samurai class, feudal governance under military rule (shogunate), and the development of distinctly Japanese Buddhist and aesthetic traditions, distinguishing it from both earlier classical and later early modern phases of Japanese civilization.
