Lithospheric Delamination

Lithospheric Delamination is a geodynamic process in which the dense lower portion of the continental lithosphere detaches and sinks into the underlying asthenosphere, driven by gravitational instability, thereby enabling replacement with hotter, more buoyant mantle material and influencing mountain building and surface uplift.
