Lariat Formation

Lariat Formation is a biochemical process in which the intron RNA, during splicing, is excised from the pre-messenger RNA and cyclized into a lariat structure through a 2′-5′ phosphodiester bond between the branch point adenosine and the 5′ splice site, marking a key intermediate step in the spliceosome-mediated intron removal pathway.
