Knot Insertion is a geometric refinement technique in isogeometric analysis that belongs to the class of B-spline and NURBS-based mesh refinement methods, distinguished by its ability to selectively add knots to a parametric curve or surface representation without altering its geometry, thereby increasing local control and solution accuracy.
