Knife-line Attack

Knife-Line Attack is a localized form of intergranular corrosion that occurs in the narrow region adjacent to welds in stabilized stainless steels, where the peak temperature during welding is sufficient to dissolve chromium carbides without allowing time for their reprecipitation, resulting in a continuous line of chromium-depleted zones vulnerable to preferential attack.
