Indigenous Religions

Indigenous Religions is a classificatory category in the academic study of religion that designates the localized, community-specific religious traditions of Indigenous peoples that are historically rooted in particular lands and kinship-based lifeways and are typically orally transmitted, non-proselytizing, and integrally embedded in social and cultural practices, in contrast to translocal “world religions” and recent “new religious movements.”
