About

Impoliteness studies is a sub-field of linguistic pragmatics and discourse analysis dedicated to the systematic investigation of language use perceived as intentionally face-threatening, aggressive, or violating social norms of politeness. It examines the strategies, forms, functions, and contextual factors – including socio-cultural influences and communicative affordances – that shape the production and interpretation of impolite behaviour across various interactional settings, seeking to understand discursive aggression and its societal implications.
