Ice Wedges

Ice Wedge is a permafrost-related ground ice feature that forms in thermal contraction cracks in permafrost regions, where repeated frost cracking and subsequent ice infilling create vertical or sub-vertical tabular bodies of ice, distinguished from other cryostructures by their polygonal network patterns and syngenetic growth mechanism.
