High Gothic is a distinct phase of Gothic art, characterized by the refinement and systematization of architectural and artistic elements such as skeletal stone vaulting, large stained glass windows, and vertical emphasis, that emerged in the mid-12th to early 13th centuries primarily in the Île-de-France region.
