Hellenistic Civilization

Hellenistic Civilization is a historical period and cultural phenomenon characterized by the diffusion of Greek language, thought, and institutions across the eastern Mediterranean and Near East following the conquests of Alexander the Great, distinguished from earlier Greek civilizations by its synthesis of Hellenic traditions with native Near Eastern, Egyptian, and Persian cultures under cosmopolitan urban centers and Hellenized monarchies.
