Gray Molasses Cooling

Gray Molasses Cooling is a laser cooling technique that exploits spatially modulated, polarization-gradient light fields to induce velocity-dependent population imbalances in atoms through a combination of optical pumping and coherent light shifts, thereby enabling sub-Doppler cooling in weakly allowed or metastable-state-coupled transitions.
