Graupel Charging
Graupel Charging is a microphysical electrification mechanism within thunderstorm environments wherein charge transfer occurs during collisions between graupel particles and ice crystals in the presence of supercooled water droplets, primarily driven by differences in temperature and growth rates that establish an electric dipole moment across the colliding hydrometeors.
