The Geostrophic Streamfunction is a scalar mathematical function belonging to the class of fluid dynamical potential functions that, through its spatial derivatives, directly yields the geostrophic wind or velocity components in balanced, large-scale atmospheric or oceanic flows under the influence of the Coriolis force and pressure gradients.
