Functional Expense Allocation
Functional Expense Allocation is a cost allocation methodology in nonprofit accounting that systematically assigns an organization’s natural expenses to functional categories—typically program services, management and general, and fundraising—according to the purpose and benefit of each cost, in order to measure and report the full cost of each function for financial reporting and accountability.
