First nations cinema is an academic field of study that examines films created by, for, and about First Nations peoples, primarily in Canada. This research investigates the unique aesthetic forms, narrative strategies, thematic concerns, and production contexts of these films, recognizing their critical role in challenging colonial representations, asserting cultural identity, and contributing to Indigenous self-determination and media sovereignty.
