Export Production Estimation is a biogeochemical modeling metric that quantifies the flux of organic carbon from the surface ocean to depth by measuring the portion of primary production that sinks out of the euphotic zone, thereby distinguishing it from other productivity measures through its focus on vertically exported biomass.
