Epigraph Formulation

Epigraph Formulation is a mathematical modeling framework in convex optimization that represents an optimization problem by introducing an auxiliary variable to express the objective function as a constraint, thereby transforming the original problem into an equivalent form where the epigraph—the set of points lying on or above the graph of the objective function—is explicitly incorporated into the feasible set.
