Entity Ontological Commitment

Entity Ontological Commitment is an ontological stance within scientific anti-realism that asserts a theory's commitment to the existence of certain entities only if those entities are indispensable to the best scientific explanations, thereby distinguishing it from broader forms of realism by restricting ontological acceptability to theoretically indispensable posits.
