The "Emanation Debate" is a philosophical discourse within Arabic philosophy concerning the metaphysical explanation of the origin of existence, specifically distinguishing itself by addressing whether all beings proceed necessarily from the One through a hierarchical process of emanation (fayḍ) as opposed to creation ex nihilo or free divine will.
