Dream States

Dream States is a theoretical construct in Gothic Fiction studies that identifies and analyzes the psychological and narrative function of altered consciousness episodes—such as dreams, visions, and hallucinations—through which repressed fears, traumas, and unconscious desires are symbolically manifested, thus distinguishing it from mere plot devices by its role in revealing ontological uncertainty and destabilizing the boundary between reality and illusion.
