Development Rights Compensation

Development Rights Compensation is a compensation mechanism within urban planning and land-use policy that allocates financial or in-kind remuneration to landowners for the restriction or transfer of their development rights, thereby enabling the reallocation of density or building potential to designated growth areas while preserving open space, affordable housing, or historic resources.
