Development Length Design

Development Length Design is a structural engineering methodology that, as a component of ductile detailing, specifies the minimum embedment length required for reinforcing bars to achieve their yield strength through bond stress development with surrounding concrete, thereby ensuring plastic hinge formation and seismic energy dissipation without premature bar pullout.
