Density Wave Theory

Density Wave Theory is a theoretical framework in astrophysics that explains the spiral arm structure of disc galaxies as a result of quasi-stationary density waves propagating through the galactic disc, where the enhanced star formation and luminous tracers arise from compressions in interstellar gas and stars induced by the wave pattern, rather than from fixed material arms.
