Cryptographic Hash-Based Authentication is a challenge-response authentication mechanism that uses cryptographic hash functions to verify the identity of a party by demonstrating knowledge of a secret without transmitting the secret itself, distinguishing it from other authentication methods through its reliance on the one-way property of hash functions to ensure security.
