Coupled-mode Theory

Coupled-Mode Theory is a mathematical framework in waveguide and photonic system analysis that describes the interaction and energy exchange between spatially proximate optical modes through perturbative coupling, distinguished from general wave propagation models by its focus on modal superposition and resonant transfer in weakly coupled or periodically varying structures.
