Coupled Electro-mechanical Behavior

Coupled Electro-Mechanical Behavior is a fundamental electrokinetic phenomenon in geotechnical engineering wherein the simultaneous interaction between an applied electric field and mechanical stress gradients in saturated porous media induces transient, interdependent changes in soil deformation, pore pressure distribution, and ion transport, distinguishably governed by the synergy of electroosmosis, electrophoresis, and consolidation mechanisms.
