Counterpart Preservation
Counterpart Preservation is a type of fossil preservation in which complementary impressions of a trace fossil are retained on both the upper and lower surfaces of a sedimentary bed, typically on the sole of an overlying stratum and the surface of an underlying layer, thereby capturing detailed morphology of the original trace in positive and negative relief.
