Contraction Scour

Contraction Scour is a type of localized erosion in fluvial engineering that occurs when flow contraction, caused by a reduction in channel width or an increase in discharge through a constricted cross-section, accelerates stream velocity and increases shear stress on the streambed, thereby scouring sediment progressively downstream.
