Compactional Deformation is a type of brittle deformation characterized by the reduction of pore space and volume in porous geological materials under applied stress, distinguished from other brittle deformation mechanisms by its predominance in granular or porous media and its reliance on grain rearrangement and intergranular fracturing without significant macroscopic fracturing.
