Cometary Volatiles

Cometary Volatiles is a scientific construct referring to the class of low-boiling-point chemical compounds, predominantly water, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and methane, that sublimate readily from the solid phase to gas upon solar heating and are native to the icy matrix of comets, thereby driving cometary activity and providing diagnostic signatures of primordial solar system composition.
