Cirque Formation is a geomorphological process denoting the excavation and development of a bowl-shaped, steep-walled bedrock amphitheater at high elevations through the accumulation, erosion, and downwasting of glacial ice, distinguished from other glacial erosional forms by its characteristic morphology, headward incision, and role as the initiating locus of alpine glaciers.
