Chern-simons Theory

Chern-simons theory is a specific type of topological quantum field theory, primarily defined on odd-dimensional manifolds, which describes gauge fields with a purely topological action. It investigates topological invariants of manifolds and links within them, characterized by observables independent of the spacetime metric, and holds significant importance in mathematical physics, particularly in knot theory, 3-manifold topology, condensed matter physics (e.g., fractional quantum Hall effect), and string theory.
