Cadential Evaded Resolution
Cadential Evaded Resolution is a harmonic syntactic phenomenon in tonal music theory whereby a cadential progression, expected to resolve to a stable tonic function, instead substitutes or alters the final chord to withhold full closure, thereby creating a sense of prolongation or deflection within the phrase structure.
