Buoyancy-Driven Migration is a hydrocarbon migration process in which the primary driving force for the movement of hydrocarbons through porous and permeable subsurface strata is the density difference between the hydrocarbon phase and the surrounding aqueous fluid, resulting in upward or lateral displacement until trapped by an effective seal.
