Blues Authenticity

Blues Authenticity is a theoretical construct in musicology that identifies the degree to which a musical expression adheres to the historical, cultural, and stylistic norms originating from the African American blues tradition, distinguishing it from analogous constructs by centering lived experience, emotional sincerity, and sonic fidelity to the genre’s vernacular roots.
