Black trans studies is an interdisciplinary academic field that critically examines the lived experiences, histories, theories, and cultural productions of Black transgender people. It utilizes intersectional methodologies to analyze the complex interplay of race, gender identity, sexuality, class, and other axes of difference, challenging dominant narratives and centering Black trans epistemologies. Its significance lies in generating unique knowledge that illuminates structural inequalities, highlights resistance and resilience, and contributes to liberatory scholarship and social justice.
