Bjerknes Feedback

Bjerknes Feedback is a positive climate feedback mechanism in which enhanced tropical Pacific sea surface temperature gradients strengthen atmospheric convection and zonal wind patterns, thereby reinforcing oceanic upwelling and further intensifying the initial temperature contrast, central to the coupled ocean-atmosphere dynamics of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation.
