Altered Chord Progression is a chord progression that incorporates at least one altered chord—defined as a chord containing one or more pitches modified through accidental alteration beyond the diatonic harmonies of the prevailing key—thereby distinguishing it from diatonic or standard functional progressions within the harmonic syntax of Western tonal music.
