Afar Triple Junction

The Afar Triple Junction is a tectonic junction, specifically a divergent plate boundary where three lithospheric plates—the African (Nubian), African (Somali), and Arabian—meet, distinguished by the active rifting and seafloor spreading processes initiating the separation of the Nubian, Somali, and Arabian plates along the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and East African Rift systems.
