Active Optics

Active Optics is a control methodology in telescope optics that dynamically adjusts the shape and position of optical elements in real time to maintain optimal image quality by compensating for gravitational, thermal, and mechanical deformations, distinguishing it from passive optics by its use of active feedback systems and from adaptive optics by correcting slower, larger-scale distortions.
