Traffic Density Control for Automated Highway Systems*fn1fn1This paper was not presented at any IFAC meeting. This paper was recommended for publication in revised form by Associate Editor Christos Cassandras under the direction of Editor Tamer Başar.11A macroscopic traffic density controller for an automated highway system is designed, analyzed and simulated based on a discrete-time traffic flow model. The proposed controller is shown to be able to stabilize traffic flow and eliminate congestion effectively.
