25:T41e,The intensification of environmental pollution and the destruction of the ozone layer has increased the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation reaching the surface daily, which resulted in great selective pressure for plants and insects in the biosphere. UV light stress can seriously affect the growth and development of insects, such as growth retardation, fecundity weakening, and life span shortening. Protective and detoxification enzymes, which are two important adaptive enzyme systems in insects, play a dominant role in regulating insect response to UV stress. On the basis of domestic and foreign studies on the changes in detoxification and protective enzymes under UV light stress, the effects of UV stress on the activities of protective and detoxification enzymes in insects and the mechanism of insect response to UV light stress are introduced in this study. Thus, this work provides reference suggestions for the application of UV light in comprehensive pest control and promotes the development of green prevention and control technology.26:T4cd,Areca palm (Areca catechu L.), commonly known as betel palm, is a versatile perennial evergreen, a valuable economic crop in Southeast Asia. Its cultivation is seriously threatened by a destructive disease known as yellow leaf disease (YLD). Since the 1960s, the causal agent of the YLD was proposed to be phytoplasma, a pleomorphic wall-less, in vitro unculturable bacteria, which was supported by many reports from India, Sri Lanka, and China, but convincing etiological evidence is still lacking. Recently, the YLD was reported to be associated with a newly emerged novel areca palm velarivirus 1 (APV1) that belongs to the genus Velarivirus of the family Closteroviridae. Furthermore, APV1 could be transmitted by both Pseudococcus cryptus and Ferrisia virgata mealybugs to areca palm seedlings and caused typical YLD symptoms. A growing body of evidence suggests that APV1 is the causal agent of YLD, although Koch’s postulate has not been fulfilled. The conundrum of the causal agent of YLD is not yet solved. This review aims to compile and critically review all the published data concerning YLD as per our knowledge.27:T44e,Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a root crop significant in food security and various bio-industrial applications such as animal feed, modified starch, and biofuels. Drought and cold stress are two major factors limiting cassava production qualitatively and quantitatively, for which plants have evolved mechanisms to overcome the impact of these two stressors. In recent years, significant progress has been achieved in understanding the response mechanism of cassava plants to stress signals to tolerate the above stresses. In this review, core stress-signaling pathways, including transcription factor (TF)-related regulatory networks, plant hormone signaling, reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging, and non-coding RNA (ncRNA) and alternative splicing (AS) that modify gene expression levels in response to drought and/or cold stress in cassava, are summarized. Understanding these stress signaling and responses will increase our ability to improve the crops tolerance to multiple stresses for agricultural sustainability and food security for the growing world population.28:T5d3,
